Trend Evolution: The Slip Dress

The slip dress has undergone an interesting evolution in fashion trends over the years. Originating as an undergarment in the 1920s, it began as a symbol of liberation and rebellion in the 1990s, thanks to its adoption by icons like Kate Moss. Its sleek, minimalist silhouette became synonymous with effortless cool, transitioning from lingerie-inspired eveningwear to versatile daytime attire. Today, the slip dress continues to captivate with its timeless elegance, reinvented season after season with modern fabrics, prints, and styling, proving its status as a wardrobe staple for any contemporary fashion enthusiast.

Manhattan Collective

Manhattan Collective is a rental retail business me alongside 3 other students created as part of our capstone project for fashion studies at Kansas State University. We aimed to create a sustainable retail business for the community of Manhattan, KS. Below you can see our final mood board for our company, Manhattan Collective.

  • In addition to our rental, repair, and upcycling services, our team wanted to make a difference by doing something more personal. Our team came up with using fabric scraps to create tote bags that will be filled with feminine products that we will give out to the homeless community in surrounding towns.

  • Our team did extensive research on the demographics of the Manhattan community. Discovering what apparel needs we can meet for our target market of women ages 25-35. We found there is a need for formal wear and business wear apparel destinations.

Window Display

The window display I have created on Adobe photoshop is pictured below. As part of my fashion studies curriculum, I have created a window display with the theme “back to school” for a childrenswear brand.

Using Photoshop, I've created a fun scene bursting with excitement for the new school year. Cute mannequins decked out in the latest kids' clothes stand alongside backpacks and school supplies. It's a playful sneak peek at what's in store for the school season, inviting everyone to join in on the fun at Pigtails and Pirates.

Minimalism Trend Report:

Through our fashion forecasting class, we explore trends and understand how they work. My trend report: a memoir to minimalism is my analysis on the minimalist trend. By dissecting the principles of minimalism and its intersection with fashion, I not only analyze current trends but also forecast future shifts in consumer preferences and brand strategies.
